*Kamchatka BigHorn and Snow Sheep:
The Kamchatka BigHorn inhabits the mountains of 5000 - 6200 feet altitude. Current populations are about 7500 animals on the peninsula. There are 5500 of the Koryak Snow Sheep inhabiting 2600 - 5500 foot mountains. A mature ram weights 80 - 95 kg (176 - 210 pounds); the average length of horns is 85 -87 cm (33 - 34 inches). The age of the majority taken by clients, is 9 years. The biggest trophies taken by our sheep hunters were a 41-inch Kamchatka BigHorn and a 39-inch Koryak Snow Sheep. Sport hunting does not threaten the population of snow sheep in Kamchatka; the main enemies of snow sheep here are wolves and snowy winters.
*We arrange the hunting for 2 subspecies from August 1:
The Kamchatka Big Horn in the central part of peninsula, the Koriyak Snow Sheep in the Koriyak District, (which inhabits the Koriyak plateau, and the Oljutorsk rocky seashores north of the 60 th parallel). The helicopter will take you to the tent camp, which is set up where our guide has found the Rams during a scouting expedition before hunting with the clients begins. Accommodations in tents are comfortable, heated and spacious. Our professional staff takes special care of our clients and will make your stay enjoyable and memorable. You will have an abundance of Russian homestlye food in camp. An interpreter will accompany you during your entire stay, both in the city and in the field. You will have your own experienced guide who has excellent knowledge of wild life in the area and will assist you to harvest a good trophy Snow Sheep.
*Weather in Hunting Area:
It may rain in the mountains, so we recommend having waterproof clothes as well. By day the temperature ranges from +5-15°C (40-60°F) and at night about 5°C (40°F).
*Recomendation for hunters:
The hunting for both species of Snow Sheep is physically demanding and needs some hunter's experience in hunting in the mountains. You will need some equipment such as special boots for hunting in the mountains, windbreaker type clothes, waterproof and camouflage clothing, binoculars and 243-300 – caliber rifle. |
